Serralunga d’Alba. “Mascarello” House. Residential building. Serralunga d’Alba (Seralonga d’Alba) is an Italian town of 488 inhabitants in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont. Serralunga d’Alba is a very small village over which the large city castle watches. The name of the city is linked to its conformation: a small group of houses that follows the crest of the hill. This conformation gives it a particular microclimate, almost as if it were a long greenhouse. Looking at the village from above, the walls draw the shape of a heart, but the most beautiful thing is to walk through its ancient streets and rediscover the ancient history of this town. Also famous for its slender and majestic castle, an indelible symbol of this landscape, it dominates one of the most beautiful and intact villages of the Langhe, surrounded by the hills of great wines. It is considered one of the best preserved examples of a 14th-century noble castle in Piedmont, and represents a unique case in Italy for its architectural structure, typical of a French donjon. The “Casa Mascarello” is a 15th-century building spread over approximately 900 m2 for residential use and potential tourist-receptive use located in Via Roma. The property is for independent residential use with a courtyard and consists of a main building on two levels above ground (with access from Via Roma) and a basement used as cellar rooms, connected to the other two floors by an internal staircase and overlooking the courtyard towards the valley, as well as another adjacent building on two floors, partly used as a warehouse and partly as a residential unit, and two porticos. The main building on the top floor has a loggia that overlooks the valley, towards Via Mazzini. The courtyard is surrounded by a wall. The same property has other buildings located nearby, also located in the historic center of Serralunga.
